circa 1862, with reblued 33in. barrel rifled in five grooves, the top near breech marked '***LONDON, INVENTOR OF THE EXPANSIVE PRINCIPLE' (the beginning obscured), block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, commercial Birmingham proofs, border and scroll engraved military style lock further engraved with a Queen's crown over 'L.V.R.C' (London Volunteer Rifle Club?) over 'CORT & PAUL', walnut three-quarter stock with iron furniture (plugged holes at wrist from a later peep-sight, inlet repair over a rear swivel hole), vacant oval silver escutcheon to the left hand cheek, two iron barrel-bands, no bayonet lug and jag-ended ramrod
